About Me

Where to start, where to start? Well, I suppose I should start at the very beginning - it's a very good place to start! Thank you, Julie Andrews.

Here's the boring stuff first: I have brown hair though I was born blonde. I am about five feet four and one-half inches tall (the extra half of an inch makes a difference!), and as of March 2015, twenty years old. Fort Worth, Texas was, is, and always will be my hometown because it was there where I drank my first cup of coffee. Or maybe it was in Austin, TX where the addiction began? Meh, potatoh-tomatoh, right? Anyhow, I have two wonderfully sassifrasstastic sisters, a mother who was literally sent from heaven, a dad who may or may not be batman (aside from his striking lack of hair), and Shaylee, my beautiful, pompous, immensely spoiled Great Dane (harlequin). I love cats too, and sometimes I prefer their company over human interaction.

I am currently attending Grand Canyon University and pursuing a degree in - wait for it - English Literature! Cue the fanfare. "You know that nothing is going to come from a degree like that, right?" Yes, thank you Mr. World Voice who seems to think that happiness, success, financial freedom, and inner peace are all interchangeable. Do I have a plan? Yes, and I'll get to that, but I firmly believe that if you are not doing what makes you happy, it doesn't matter how much money you make or what kind of lifestyle you live - peace will not be yours. That isn't to say I agree with bumming it out and relying on the goodwill of others for indefinite stability and support, but spending every hour of every day working to achieve some sort of financial status just sucks the life out of, well, life!

Upon graduation I plan to begin work on 1) my M.Ed. and 2) graduate work in Medieval studies. Hopefully I will be accepted into a teaching fellowship at a major university, but we will see. As I type this I am sitting behind a library desk as a student worker. When I get home tonight I am going to work out (I REALLY need to) and then eat dinner before a conference call to write a marketing plan for the most recent small business I will be assisting. I hope to have a few writing jobs waiting in my inbox as well!

Before I continue, I do NOT have my life figured out. Often, I feel as though I am on a journey through a marsh. It is the dead of night, I am blindfolded and deaf, and unfortunately have only one shoe. Lightening flashes all around me, and even though I cannot see or hear it, I feel the heat on my skin threatening to burn me to a crisp. Life is a funny thing. Sometimes I live in a swamp, but then again, swamp mud can be very beneficial. What I am trying to say is this: push through the bogs. Don't give up and rely on people around you to help - you will come out stronger than when you went in, I promise!

What else to say? I was born and raised in Texas, moved to Oregon when I was fifteen, and now I'm back down south for school. Moving cross country was exciting, depressing, frightening, and just all around hard to do, and I never acclimated either. I still consider myself a Texan, and dream of moving back someday.

When I was ten I joined Boy Scouts and eventually earned my Eagle Scout award. During this time I also joined up with Venture Crew 1910 for a time and earned my SCUBA certification! I don't dive very often, but I plan to do more in the future.

Oh! Another thing about me: I love water! Throughout middle school and the first half of high school I was on swimming and diving teams. When we moved to Oregon I couldn't afford to drive super far to practices every day, so I had to give it up due to financial constraints. In and around the water are still some of my favorite places to be!

After moving to Oregon my love of music, dance, and theater grew exponentially! I spent most of my high school career in musicals or shows of some sort, and learned quite a bit about performing in different mediums. I still enjoy acting, singing, dancing, and other eclectic activities of the sort, but simply do not have the time in my life to pursue it as I would like right now.

Food is my life. I love eating well because I believe that, in order to live well, one must enjoy good food! To quote the motto of my family's old pizza restaurant, "Live, Love, Eat Well." Moving away to college was exciting, but unfortunately I had to give up my precious kitchen! There is a reason that cooking, baking, and the like are called culinary "arts," and they are pursuits that I love exploring any way I possibly can!

Reading is one of my favorite activities. Although asking me to pick my favorite book would be like asking someone to pick their favorite child (I was the favorite... kidding), I would have to say anything written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Second favorite book series: Harry Potter!

Here are some words to describe my nerdiness: anime, video games, RPGs, comic con, movies, TV shows, fantasy novels, LOTR, LOTR, LOTR, LOTR, LOTR.

Here are some words to describe my true loves: coffee, tea, FOOD. Oh, and my family used to own a gourmet pizzeria. Just sayin.

Most importantly, spending time with the people I love and care about takes priority over just about everything else in my life. Without support from my friends and family I would not be where I am today.

I will probably end up adding to and editing this section, but that is pretty much me in a nutshell!
